It is one of the oldest universities in china.
In 1996, thousands of alumni from around the world gathered in Beijing to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Jiaotong University. Mr. Jiang Zemin, President of the People's Republic of China and a distinguished alumnus of Jiaotong University, wrote down his very inspiring best wishes to BJTU, “Carry on the efforts and build the university into a first-class one in the world.” He then wrote the name for the newly-built main building --“Siyuan Building”.
